Research in the Dudding Group
Our research program is focused on combining experimental, computational, and physical organic chemistry as an innovative strategy to develop or improve chemical processes. In doing so, we provide useful insight into reaction mechanisms, chemical reactivity, molecular structure, bonding and fluorescent properties. Our group is actively developing new catalysts and catalytic systems, ligands, fluorophores, and molecules with unique physical properties for materials applications. We are also actively applying our catalytic methodologies to the synthesis of natural products and/or biologically active compounds. In addition to our internal interests and projects, we are continuously involved in academic and industrial collaborations ranging from methodology development and optimization, to theoretical investigation of reaction mechanisms.
The interdisciplinary approach taken by the Dudding group allows students to gain expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, physical organic chemistry, computational chemistry, and computer programming.
